Dr. Peter Skalenda

Dr. Peter Skalenda, B.SC., D.C., CAFCI

Dr. Peter Skalenda grew up in the Don Mills area of Toronto but has lived in East York since 1995. Peter lived in Leaside during his early years at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) plus worked at The Racing Stripe Bike Shop at Bayview and Parkhurst during High School and University. Dr. Skalenda and his wife Barb (who is also a Doctor of Chiropractic) live near Cosburn and Coxwell with their teenage daughter Haley.

Dr. Skalenda is an accomplished multi-sport athlete, having competed in swimming, soccer, hockey, triathlons and road cycling from a young age to the present.

Bouts of severe lower back pain in Dr. Skalenda’s teenage years led to his future as a chiropractor. He quickly came to realize that the medical model of health care was not going to heal his injury and cease his severe pain, and only realized significant improvements in his condition once he started attending chiropractic treatment. Peter was given quality treatments by an enthusiastic chiropractor who spent a long time with his treatments plus prescribed stretching exercises for Peter’s condition. Peter came to realize that if he attended regular treatments and stretched regularly that his lower back pain was significantly better and his athletic performance was improved.

This experience focused his post-secondary education, with Peter first obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Guelph followed by the Doctor of Chiropractic degree from CMCC in 1997. Understanding patient needs and a desire to provide superior health care drives Dr. Skalenda's professional development. In 2003 he completed the Chiropractic Orthopedics Residency Program through CMCC and New York Chiropractic College and in 2004 he became licensed to provide acupuncture treatments through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

Dr. Skalenda specializes in treating all musculoskeletal injuries and headache pain conditions. Peter spends a lot of time with his patients, providing them with extensive treatments and educating them about their condition. Patients are instructed on how to properly perform stretching exercises that have been customized to their specific needs. A typical treatment with Dr. Skalenda may involve the use of muscle stimulation or ultrasound modalities, acupuncture, soft tissue work via massage or the Thumper Massager, manual stretching exercises and spinal/extremity adjustments as deemed applicable and necessary.

Dr. Suzanne Crix

Dr. Suzanne Crix, BScH, DC

Congratulations on making your health a priority! I am fortunate to have parents who taught me that health comes from within and to have discovered early that my body has the innate ability to heal itself - when given the opportunity. I now have two happy healthy boys who I intend to provide with every advantage that good health and chiropractic care can bring them. So far - they have incredible energy.

With over 20 years of professional experience since graduating from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1996, my philosophy on health drives everything I do from the services I provide, to the continuing education and personal growth I pursue. I look forward to the coming years as a chiropractor in this wellness era as more people take control of their health and as others continue to strive to express a better version of themselves.

Thank you to my private and corporate practice members for selecting me as your chiropractor. I will encourage you to achieve your health goals and will support you by maximizing your everyday life experiences through an optimally functioning nervous system. With the knowledge that our health affects every aspect of our lives, I have faith that raising our collective levels of health consciousness will empower us to make smarter lifestyle choices leading to a greater quality of life... let's be active, eat right, think well and enjoy the journey!

Chloe

Chloe

Congratulations Chloe! In the June 2014 issue of the Leaside Life News magazine Chloe was named the winner of the Best Office Greeter Award in Leaside, beating out 7 other dogs and a bird for the honour.

Chloe has been a valuable member of the Millwood Team since late in 2010, acting as Therapy Dog, Patient Greeter and part-time Security Guard.

Chloe loves attending work with her Dad, Dr. Peter Skalenda. She works every morning and the odd afternoon, and is usually so excited to see who is in the office that she practically jumps over Dr. Skalenda as he is trying to get out of the car and into the office.

Chloe will greet you at the door, play fetch with you or cuddle on your lap in the waiting room if you are so inclined. Chloe has become such a loved staff member that some patients will only book appointments when they know that Chloe will be working.

Chloe’s main interests are treats, playing fetch, cuddling, sleeping and going for walks in the ravine where she can chase squirrels.
